More information about the Deutschland-Ticket

What is the Deutschland-Ticket?

Following the success of the 9-euro ticket, the federal government and the federal states agreed to introduce a so-called Deutschland-Ticket. The ticket is valid for local public transport throughout Germany and is issued exclusively as a subscription. The Germany Ticket can be canceled on a monthly basis (by the 10th of the month for cancellation at the end of that month). The Deutschland-Ticket is stored as a digital ticket on a chip card or smartphone. The Deutschland-Ticket can be ordered through the subscription centers in the VVS. You can find the nationwide standardized fare regulations for the Deutschland-Ticket here.

What does the Deutschland-Ticket cost?

The Deutschland-Ticket has cost 63 euros per month since January 1, 2026. For most customers in the VVS, the Deutschland-Ticket is still worthwhile even after the price adjustment to 63 euros. You can use our VVS environmental calculator to find out how much money and CO₂ you save each month compared to driving a car. Background: The federal government and the federal states provide a total of three billion euros annually to finance the Deutschland-Ticket. This amount is no longer sufficient. Therefore, the price had to be moderately increased in order to continue offering the still highly attractive and nationwide valid D-Ticket.

D-Ticket Job, JugendBW & 1st Class

The D-Ticket as a JobTicket costs 59.85 euros with a minimum employer subsidy of 15.75 euros, meaning employees ultimately pay a maximum price of 44.10 euros. As of January 1, 2026, the price of the D-Ticket JugendBW also increased in line with the regular Deutschland-Ticket. The current monthly price is 45 euros. The Deutschlandsemesterticket currently costs 208.80 euros per semester (34.80 euros/month), and the supplement for 1st class valid throughout Baden-Württemberg is 63 euros per month.

Who is the Deutschland-Ticket worthwhile for?

Due to its affordable price, the ticket is worthwhile for anyone who occasionally leaves their car at home and uses public transport instead. The offer is cheaper than almost all existing VVS subscriptions. Those who have previously used monthly tickets should also consider switching to the Deutschland-Ticket. The Deutschland-Ticket is even cheaper than most 10-day tickets and is often worthwhile for people who work from home and only travel to the office occasionally.

Why is the Deutschland-Ticket only available in digital form?

This is a requirement set by the federal government and the federal states. However, this is not a problem within the VVS, as all subscriptions are already issued either as a chip card or as a mobile ticket. The best way to order is online via the VVS website, but it is also possible to place an order at the customer centers.

What will happen to the other VVS fare offers?

All VVS fare offers will initially remain in place. With occasional travel tickets (single, 4-trip, and day tickets), customers who only use buses and trains from time to time will continue to find a suitable option for their travel needs. Weekly and monthly tickets can also still be purchased; however, switching to a Deutschland-Ticket subscription is often worthwhile.

Questions about the purchase

Where can I order the Deutschland-Ticket?

The Deutschland-Ticket can only be ordered as a subscription. The price of 58 euros is debited from your account monthly. The order is placed through the VVS subscription centers. These are the subscription centers of SSB, Deutsche Bahn, the Interessengemeinschaft des Personenverkehrsgewerbes eG (IGP), and the VVS subscription center in the district of Göppingen. The ticket is generally stored on a chip card (polygoCard), but it can also be issued as a mobile ticket (see question: How can I convert the Deutschland-Ticket into a mobile ticket?).

How can I store my Deutschland-Ticket in the app?
  • f the Deutschland-Ticket was purchased as a subscription on the polygoCard from SSB, it can be transferred to the app as a mobile ticket. Detailed instructions can be found here: Description by SSB
→ If this Deutschland-Ticket was already stored in the old app, simply logging into the ticket shop of the new app is sufficient for the ticket to be displayed again.
  • Deutschland-Tickets from Deutsche Bahn (DB) can be switched from polygoCard to a mobile ticket (for DB Navigator) via the DB subscription portal at abo.bahn.de.
  • Subscriptions with IGP and the Göppingen subscription center can only be used with the polygoCard carried with you.
Do I have to cancel the Deutschland-Ticket, or does it end automatically?

The Deutschland-Ticket is a subscription that can be canceled monthly. If it is not canceled, it continues indefinitely. Cancellation is possible by the 10th of any month effective at the end of that month, without additional charges or processing fees.

How can I cancel the Deutschland-Ticket?

As with existing VVS subscription offers, this can easily be done online with just a click. Subscribers can also cancel in writing (by email or letter). If you ordered your subscription directly via the VVS Mobil app, you can access the subscription management section through the “Tickets” menu and your personal settings (button at the top right). Further information can be found here.

I canceled my Deutschland-Ticket subscription and would now like to rejoin. What do I need to do?

If you have canceled the Deutschland-Ticket and would like to subscribe again, you must reorder the ticket. If you previously received your Deutschland-Ticket on a polygoCard, please keep it — the card may be reused when you rejoin. In this case, please contact the subscription center from which you received the polygoCard.

Questions about validity

Where can I travel with the Deutschland-Ticket?

The Deutschland-Ticket is valid on all buses and trains in local and regional public transport throughout Germany. This includes all IRE, MEX, RE, RB, S-Bahn trains, trams/light rail, and buses. The ticket is not valid on long-distance trains (for example ICE, EC, IC, Flixtrain, TGV, etc.) or on long-distance buses.

Exception: The long-distance IC trains on the Stuttgart – Singen (– Konstanz) line can also be used with the Deutschland-Ticket.

Is the Deutschland-Ticket also valid on the long-distance trains of the Gäubahn?

Yes, the long-distance IC trains on the Stuttgart – Singen (– Konstanz) line can also be used in 2nd class with the Deutschland-Ticket.

Note: 1st class on the IC trains on the Stuttgart – Singen line can be used with a Deutschland-Ticket and an additional 1st class supplement for the Deutschland-Ticket for a further 63 euros per month (valid throughout Baden-Württemberg).

Can I also travel in 1st class with the Deutschland-Ticket?

The Deutschland-Ticket is valid for 2nd class. To upgrade to 1st class (not possible for D-Tickets for trainees), a supplement must be paid in accordance with local conditions. Within the VVS, a supplement for 63 euros per month can be purchased, which is then valid not only within the VVS but throughout Baden-Württemberg on local and regional services.

Anyone who has a regular D-Ticket and only wishes to use 1st class occasionally within the VVS can purchase individual 1st class supplements for the respective zones traveled.

Can I switch to another, higher-value train (long-distance service) with the Deutschland-Ticket in the event of an expected delay of more than 20 minutes?

No, this is not possible. The Deutschland-Ticket is considered a “ticket with a significantly reduced fare” and is therefore excluded from this regulation of passenger rights in rail transport.

Can I take my dog with the Deutschland-Ticket?

In principle, the respective local regulations regarding taking dogs apply when traveling with the Deutschland-Ticket. For journeys within the VVS area, one dog may be taken along free of charge with the Deutschland-Ticket. Anyone traveling beyond the VVS area with their Deutschland-Ticket must check which regulations regarding taking dogs apply.
