VVS Mobil uses the state's CiCoBW systems

VVS Mobil uses the uniform state-wide check-in/check-out system of the state of Baden-Württemberg (CiCoBW) with fares from all networks and the bwtarif. After a simple check-in, you can use public transport in the VVS and throughout Baden-Württemberg. At the end of the journey, after a manual or automatic check-out, the price is calculated as the best price for the day. For an onward or return journey, the previous day's journeys are taken into account when calculating the price.

All questions & answers

Where can I use the app?

CiCoBW in the VVS Mobil app is valid throughout the entire state of Baden-Württemberg. Further information on the area of validity can be found on the CiCoBW page at bwegt.

How does the feature work?

After check-in, VVS Mobil periodically determines your phone’s location and compares it with timetable data to track your journey. For this purpose, location data and activity/fitness data are evaluated. In addition, the app scans for Bluetooth signals (so-called beacons) to determine your exact position, especially underground. Based on this, a ticket is generated.

CiCoBW can only be used while checked in, with an active mobile data connection (temporary signal loss during the journey is not an issue) and enabled GPS. During longer transfers or when the vehicle is stationary, make sure to remain checked in. If the system assumes the journey has ended (“automatic check-out after 15 minutes without detected travel”), you can extend the recording by selecting “Continue journey”.

To avoid incorrect billing, a manual check-out should be performed when switching from bus or train to a private car. This can be done shortly after exiting the vehicle (e.g. after walking from the stop to the parking area).

On Android devices, CiCoBW cannot be used in battery-saving mode. If battery-saving mode is activated during a journey, an automatic check-out will occur after 30 seconds (loss of travel authorization). Automatic battery-saving settings (e.g. when battery level is low) should therefore be disabled before starting your trip.

Can I check in on multiple devices?

CiCoBW can only be used on one device in one app at a time. After checking in, the CiCoBW function cannot be used on another device or in another app with the same SSB login (VVS Mobil, SSB Move, VVS BWeit, polygo app, or bwegt app) until the following day.

Which ticket types are considered?

Within the VVS area, the following are used to calculate the daily best price: short distance ticket, single ticket adult (mobile ticket), day ticket (mobile or print), city ticket for one person, and 1st class single journey surcharge. Further tariff information can be found in the VVS joint tariff.

For journeys in other transport associations or under the bwtarif, the ticket types defined by the respective associations are considered. The joint tariff conditions of the CiCoBW partners are available in their latest version on the CiCoBW page at bwegt.

Can I take someone with me using CiCoBW?

Currently, it is not possible to take additional passengers. This option will soon be added under “Adjust journey options”. Until then, a separate check-in with another account is required, or a ticket must be purchased via other sales channels.

Taking dogs (except assistance dogs) or bicycles is not possible with CiCoBW. If required, a separate ticket must be purchased via other sales channels. Information on taking bicycles in the VVS can be found online, as well as further details at bwegt.de or with the regional transport associations.
